Three Videos: The 2013 March on Washington

Tens of thousands of people marched on the National Mall over the weekend for an LGBT-inclusive commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington.

Check out some scenes from the march in the videos above and below.

In this post’s third video (which is slightly older—from August 12), Amy Goodman talks with Walter Naegle, John D’Emilio and Julian Bond about the late gay civil-rights hero Bayard Rustin. Rustin, the chief organizer of the 1963 event, will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom (posthumously) this year.

The commemoration continues this week. On Wednesday, Dr. Eliza Byard, the Executive Director of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, will deliver a speech at the 50th Anniversary Let Freedom Ring Commencement and Call to Action event. Byard will join other high-profile speakers, including three presidents and members of Martin Luther King Jr.’s family.
