I’m conflicted about starting this third Global News Roundup with a story about (and photo of) Bristol Palin, but here I go anyway:
- Bristol Palin denies on her blog that her son Tripp used the antigay slur “f*gg*t” in a widely circulated video (available here from Towleroad). “[H]e used a different ‘f word,'” she writes. (The young Ms. Palin then takes the opportunity to reaffirm her opposition to marriage equality.) The video clip bleeps out part of the word, but based on what’s audible, it seems likely to me that the word was an antigay slur and not some variation on the more generic “f word.” (Photo of Ms. Palin courtesy of Gage Skidmore (CC-BY-SA-3.0) via Wikimedia Commons.)
- In other national news, Zack Ford from Think Progress comments on the American Family Association’s ongoing, unhinged criticisms of Office Depot. Office Depot is partnering with the Born This Way Foundation–formed by Lady Gaga, her mother Cynthia Germanotta, and others–to create a line of back-to-school products (such as gift cards, post-it notes, and bracelets) with anti-bullying messages, including “Be Brave” and “Be Accepting.” Additional coverage from the Huff Post appears here.
